Derma Shield Bandage:

Leave the initial bandage on for 24-48 hours. If fluid buildup is significant enough that it begins to leak from the bandage, or if there is no longer a consistent seal around the tattoo, remove and rinse with antibacterial soap, pat dry with a paper towel, and apply second bandage or continue with general aftercare. Remove bandage by gently pulling it down, allowing it to slowly lift away from the skin. It is helpful to remove it in the shower under lukewarm water. The second bandage can be applied once the tattoo and surrounding skin are clean and completely dry. Do not leave second bandage infer more than 3 days. Once the bandage is removed, continue to wash it morning and night with antibacterial soap, and lightly hydrate.

Saran Wrap:

Remove Saran Wrap within 4 hours of getting the tattoo. Wash with antibacterial soap and pat dry with a paper towel. Apply unscented moisturizer, and do not wrap again.

General Care Instructions:

Wash the tattoo morning and night with antibacterial soap and lukewarm water, then apply lotion. Make sure the tattoo is thoroughly washed, but do not soak or submerge your healing tattoo. No baths, hot tubs, saunas, pools, or beaches for two weeks. Expect your tattoo to peal or flake. Light exercise is ok, preferably not in the first 3 days. Please wait until the tattoo is done pealing to go to the gym. You are at a greater risk of infection in an environment with multiple people sweating and with shared equipment. Wear loose fitting and breathable clothing for the duration of the healing process. Do not pick or scratch your healing tattoo. Avoid sun exposure, but wait to apply sunscreen until the tattoo is completely healed. (I typically wait 3 weeks) After 2 weeks you can return to your normal routines, but it is typical for the tattoo to continue to heal and settle in for a longer period of time. Everyone heals at a different rate, so please listen to your body. Heavily shaded or color tattoos tend to take more time to heal. For your tattoo’s optimal longevity, it is helpful to avoid prolonged sun exposure. keeping your skin healthy and well hydrated will also help maintain the appearance of your tattoo!

Antibacterial Soap:

orange dial hand soap in a pump container (not bar soap)

Lotion:

I like to use Hustle Butter, but a simple body lotion like Lubriderm, Aveeno, Cetaphil, or Cerave also work.

*Treat your tattoo as an open wound! Please consult a doctor if you notice any signs of infection such as: persistent swelling, heat, rash, puss, or fever.
